Probably one of the highest peaks ever reached in punk rock history (and not only) , Zen Arcade is the most ambitious and accomplished work of the Minneapolis trio, whose skills were at the time fully mastered.
Mould, Grant and Norton depart just a little bit from their hard-core roots injecting a massive dose of melody in the songs (which was already present in the previous releases, to a certain degree). This new style will prove to be extremely creative and influential, paving the way for most of the alternative rock of the next decade.
